Have you ever been too embarrassed to admit this too?!

Have you ever found yourself settling for less?

As women, we’ve been raised to say yes to everyone except ourselves. And when we decide to say yes to US, we feel guilty about it or criticize ourselves and think we’re being selfish.

We end up believing that having desires is a bad thing, but we never question how settling for less might affect us … in a bad way.

I used to deny myself my desires – regularly – until I decided to try something different. I started saying YES to the things I wanted, and I started practising my NO for the things I didn’t want.

And it felt AMAZING.

From the meal option I really wanted on the menu, to changing my mind 4 times over the last year while apartment hunting (eek). Yes 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 times where I signed a lease and then gave myself permission to change my mind (all at separate times throughout the year) because my heart wouldn’t let me settle for less.

This was SO embarrassing.

My gut kept saying NO but I kept talking myself into saying yes (i.e., settling for less) … And then, when it was clear to me that it wouldn’t work out and I finally honoured my NO – the NO I was feeling in my body – I gave myself permission to change my mind.

YES, I changed my mind!!!

It was embarrassing, an inconvenient situation, and, less than ideal. I wondered what people thought of me and felt like someone who couldn’t make up her mind.

I even lost a lot of money changing my mind! $2,000+ …

It could have been easier if I had just honoured my NO in the first place. If I could have found the courage to say NO from the beginning.

We’ve all done this. We’ve all come up with very logical reasons why we shouldn’t listen to our hearts and pursue what we actually desire to do.

We’ve all come up with very good and logical reasons why we should say yes to that job offer even though our gut is telling us it’s not a good idea.

You and I both know that’s why you’re in your current situation.

You didn’t listen to your gut when it said: “NO, wait for something better.”

Your immediate response was: “What if there isn’t something better out there?”

So we say YES when we want to say NO. And most of us never end up honouring what we truly desire and years later, nothing has changed and we still just want to quit/ change jobs/ whatever you want to call it.

I stopped doing that.
This year I stopped saying yes when I wanted to say no and vice versa.

It’s a process that doesn’t come easily.

It requires us to practice saying YES when it’s a YES, and NO when it’s a NO – even if it gets uncomfortable.

If you’re a DREAMER like most of my clients, the temporary discomfort is worth it, and listening to your heart will make a lot of sense once you listen. (In my case, the reason why I shouldn’t have taken those apartments became very clear over time).

In the moment it will feel scary. It was scary for me to backtrack and honour my truth.

And, you might be judging me right now and believe me, I also felt crazy but what happened next was quite earth-shattering (in my world). I started to feel better. The heaviness and tension that had been a subtle part of my life (some call it anxiety) started to fall away.

Imagine that. When I started to honour my YES and my NO, I became less anxious. I started to feel more grounded and aligned with who I am. I was less worried about what would happen next. I started to hear and trust my inner voice. And, as a result, she just kept on getting clearer and louder.

Honouring your desires is an ongoing journey but imagine what it would feel like to say no to this job that leaves you feeling unhappy, overwhelmed, and stressed out so you can start saying yes to YOU and what your heart truly desires to do at work!

Yes, it’s scary. Who knows what will happen next?

But shouldn’t life be all about adventures and new experiences?
Isn’t life about
feeling ALIVE?

In my experience, when you start saying YES to what your heart truly desires to do and only what your heart desires to do – then your life opens up in ways you couldn’t even have imagined.

Here’s why this season is a time to rest

Hey Queen, Do you ever wish you could decide when to take time off from work without anyone’s permission? This past month I had a week’s vacation scheduled in my calendar. I had already decided this would be my “no laptop, no internet” type of vacation, and I was really looking forward to it.  But a month
