Should you pursue the dream career?

This past weekend, I attended The Juno Awards in Hamilton. It brought me back to a moment last year when I attended The Honest Guy – a Canadian R&B singer’s concert in a small local venue.

As he sang his last song, this artist in his early 30’s opened up to the crowd and shared how: “…sometimes people won’t believe in or understand your dream; sometimes you won’t even believe in you reaching your dream.”

He was sharing his personal experience navigating pursuing his dream career. Now, he’s on stage, singing to a sold-out crowd, after winning his first Juno Award in 2025, while still working a 9 to 5.

This brought tears to my eyes because this is a story I know too well.

I have now worked over thousands of hours supporting clients as they navigate fears, self-doubt, negative thinking, and settling for less while their heart cries out for them to listen.

Their heart is just waiting for them to trust the little voice within saying I would love to do this.

It takes courage to take the first step.
It takes courage to trust your heart knows best.
It takes courage to follow your heart, and believe in yourself, and your dream.
It takes courage.
And, it also takes a simple step.

I don’t know The Honest Guy’s full story, but what I do know is he followed his dream no matter what. And last weekend, I discovered many other Canadian artists following their dreams. And, even if today, he’s still working in Finance as he said, his Soul probably feels fulfilled because he’s still pursuing his love for music.
