Feel the fear, do it anyway

Hey Beautiful Outlier!

Some of us are waiting for something to change, so something can change.

Take a moment to read that sentence again.

That’s how fear works.

We’re waiting for it to go away, so we can do the thing we say we want to do.

We want something to give us the certainty we need so we can take the step that scares us. Bottom line is, we want to feel safe.

But the truth is, fear doesn’t go away unless we face the fear.

And safety can only arise when we create our own safety.
(I know this one can be a bit mind-boggling)

Reality check:
This waiting game you’re playing … might last much longer than you anticipated.

So what can you do when fear keeps you stuck in a situation you want to change?

First, acknowledge the fear.

This is the most important step I teach clients who are struggling with high levels of anxiety. Don’t ignore what’s there – settle gently into it.

There is so much magic in letting yourself feel the emotions and the sensations that arise when you’re afraid. So take the time to feel it and just let it be. (If trying this on your own feels unsafe, reach out, I’m here to create the space you need to get acquainted with the anxiety) .

The second step is to become aware of your thoughts.

Fear never arises without scary thoughts or images (some like to call them worry thoughts). We’re actually really good at creating scenarios that don’t exist, and stop us from taking action.

The third step is a very simple one – just breathe.

Take a slow, deep breath in, and then slowly release.

That’s it, just breathe.

So next time you feel the nervousness of fear settling in – pause, and walk yourself through these steps. Then, take the action that makes you a little nervous,  so you can start to live the life you want, not the one you think you should be living.

Inspiring YOU to live a life you LOVE,
Priscilla
