How to Identify YOUR DREAM CAREER

Do you ever wonder what you could do to figure out what your heart truly desires as a career?

In my day to day work life I’m always speaking with people who are unhappy in their career. Most of them are searching for purpose, passion, meaning, fulfillment, and/ or happiness in the workplace.

Sometimes, I also randomly meet people who upon finding out what I do for work ask me: “what can I do to discover my ideal career?”

Well, the answer isn’t as simple as 1, 2, 3 … because you might have blindspots.

Yes, blindspots:

“… a lack of insight or awareness—often persistent—about a specific area of one’s behavior or personality,…” American Psychological Association

When we have blindspots – and we all do, usually in an area of our life where things never seem to go right – we’re usually unaware of the belief systems or behaviours we’ve adopted that are keeping us from creating what we truly desire in our life.

That’s why it’s so important, if you’ve been trying to figure things out in your career for what might feel like ages, to ask for help. Consider asking for help, as what smart people end up doing, instead of seeing it as a sign of weakness.

Imagine, how many times would you drive around the same block before admitting to yourself that you’re lost and you need to ask for directions? In this case, there’s no point in being stubborn and believing you can figure it out on your own. You’re lost and you don’t know the way!

It’s the same when it comes to your career.

If it were easy to do on your own, then I believe everyone would choose to wake up to a career they love.

So, let me say this bluntly, …

When you think you should be able to figure out your dream career on your own, remember that no one out there who’s living their dream, walked that success path alone.

Nobody.

So, next time you’re lost in your thoughts and find yourself going around in circles making yourself dizzy thinking about how to identify your dream career.
