How Fear Can Get in the Way of YOUR Happiness

Fear follows us everywhere.

In my opinion, how you deal with fear determines how you will navigate through life.
If you let fear get in the way, nothing will ever change.
If you learn to face your fear, you’ll create amazing new experiences.

I’d like to share with you one of my experiences dealing with fear.

Fear has always been a guiding force in my life. It used to feed my worry and uncertainty. The fear I am talking about is the one you create in your mind. Where there is no immediate physical danger.

When I say uncertainty. I’m referring to those moments when this fear, often the fear of the unknown, becomes greater than our deepest desires.

The memory that comes to mind, the end of my undergraduate studies. I was about to complete my second university degree and a man I really liked invited me to move to France with him in the upcoming year.
I remember it being so tempting. Moving to the other side of the ocean, discovering a new country, and getting to know someone I genuinely liked.

But, I said no.

I was afraid.
I worried about not knowing how the relationship would evolve.
I worried about not finding a job when I returned home after a year.
I worried about my parents’ reaction.
Finally, all of my worries overclouded my desire to experience something new.

I let fear guide my decision making.
My fear was being ignited by everything that could go wrong. I was unable to formulate positive thoughts.

I noticed how often fear kept me from doing the things I really wanted to do. It kept me from living a life that was true to my heart. To embrace new experiences even if they were scary. And, to trust that everything would be OK.

What if can become your greatest enemy when you start to worry.
You start imagining worse case scenarios and forget to embrace the present moment.
You forget the magic of letting go to allow things to flow naturally.
Trusting that everything will be OK.

Life is about shifting your routine though to create new experiences.
It’s about learning to follow your heart, to continuously step out of your comfort zone.
Life is about facing your fear.

It takes fortitude to create big changes. The longer you stay in the wrong environment and remain its product, … the longer you deny yourself the opportunity to know true happiness and satisfaction.
